Quick-thinking tour guide rescues stranded dolphin in touching footage. Benguela Dolphin released back into the ocean
Naude Dreyer – a tour guide at the Pelican Point Kayaking, is being called a hero after his quick-thinking saved the live of a young dolphin. The marine mammal got stranded on a sandy beach in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
“On our way back from tour this morning, we came across this juvenile male Benguela Dolphin, still alive on the beach,” Pelican Point Kayaking wrote. “It’s not clear how he ended up on there in the first place.”
Thankfully, the kayaking guide spotted the hopeless dolphin, just in time. Without a second thought, he jumped in action and took the helpless creature back in the ocean. The dramatic rescue was captured on camera by some beachgoers and it went viral on social media.
“After a quick assessment and measurements, I attempted to get him swimming again,” Dreyer wrote in a Facebook post. “I was not very hopeful, but as soon as he got into water and realized where he was he took off like a bullet. I’ll do a drive past the same area again later just to make sure he hasn’t returned again.”
Watch the touching footage, bellow!
Even, Dryer action saved the mammal’s life, Whales and Dolphin Conservation is warning everyone to better call the experts when facing a situation like this. “Marine mammals are wild,” they wrote in a statement. “They can cause injury by thrashing their tails or otherwise. Do not put yourself at risk of injury. Approach with care – if in doubt just wait for help – the most important thing you can do to help is to let the experts know.”
